2. Leasehold forestry and Livestock Development
Program
Introduction:
The Programme area cover 22 districts, identified
by the government as a priority for leas-hold forestry for poverty
reduction. In these 22 districts, 2.55 Million (48%) people are
poor and potential leasehold forest area could be about 160000 ha.
The overall goal of the programme is a reduction
in the poverty of the 44300 households who would be allocated leasehold
forestry plots in 22 districts through increased production of forest
products and livestock.
Major activities of the program:
Activities are grouped under
three sub-components.
• Goat Production development.
• Livestock Training and Services.
• Livestock Implementation Support.
Implementation mechnism:
• The Department of livestock services
will have responsibility for implementing this component.
• At district level, the district livestock services offices
(DLSO) will be responsible for the implementation of component and
will receive necessary implementation support.
